Devon Head Shot Photo

As a medical illustrator, I don’t have to choose between science and art or performance and business. I get to do it all. My days are joyfully varied. Surgeons who are at the top of their field will call me to explain their work. On those days, I’m a resident with a sketchbook. I learn how procedures are done and invent the best way to show them. When it’s time to deliver final color illustrations, I surround myself with prints by my favorite painters: John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Alice Neel, Edward Lear, Honoré Daumier.... Then, I’m the fine oil painter I studied to be in college (most of the time, substituting Photoshop pixels for paint.) My work requires me to stay abreast of the latest innovations in cancer research, communicable disease and medical device development, so I’m a perpetual science student. For animation projects, I am the writer/actor/director/musician I dreamed of becoming in high school. I endeavor to teach complex science and medicine by showing a great story. I look forward to hearing how I can help you with your next project.
